Where your breath takes you: Our Prints, Inspired by Marrakech

One of the things that captivated us most in Marrakech was the city beneath our feet. Courtyards, walls, fountains, hammam ceilings… Almost every surface felt like a work of art. The tradition of Zellige, created by arranging small, hand-cut geometric tiles into intricate compositions, gave every corner of the city its own rhythm.

Sometimes we would sit in a courtyard and simply look at the floor.

Our Chevron print had actually entered our world long before we travelled to Marrakech. Inspired by the rhythm of Zellige geometry, the simplicity of white backgrounds and the natural marks tiles acquire over time, the pattern went on to become one of Nefes’ signature prints.

Travelling to Marrakech gave that pattern an even deeper meaning for us. Seeing the courtyards, walls and floors we had previously only imagined felt almost like stepping into the world the print belonged to.

One day, we noticed local women casually leaving their babouche slippers at the edges of doorways. There was something we loved about the contrast of those soft leather shoes against the perfect geometry beneath them: order and disorder, design and everyday life, geometry and the life continuing on top of it.

That image inspired us to add another story to Chevron. Babouche slippers scattered across our iconic pattern became a reflection of that beautifully imperfect feeling we had seen in the courtyards of Marrakech.

The print began to feel not simply designed, but lived in.

At Nefes, every print carries a story. For us, Chevron is more than a pattern; it is a memory of our connection to Marrakech, its cool courtyards, and the traces of everyday life left across perfect geometry.
